Deadline: Monday, November 16, 2026, 5p ET
Apply: Faculty Cohort Application
Facilitators: Aria Chernik (CTL), Remi Kalir (CTL), Hannah Rozear (Libraries)
The Duke Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Duke University Libraries invite faculty with urgent questions about AI and pedagogy to join a new faculty cohort rooted in critical inquiry, collaboration, and academic innovation.
Starting in January, faculty will collectively learn about, implement, and share insights about Pressing Prompts throughout the spring 2027 semester. Developed by Duke undergraduate students, faculty, and staff, Pressing Prompts is an openly-accessible educational resource that provides student-centered learning activities intended to guide curious and critical conversation about AI topics across multi-disciplinary classroom contexts. Unlike a static set of “best practices,” Pressing Prompts is grounded in principles of critical pedagogy and educational experimentation, thereby enabling students and instructors to examine how AI raises crucial questions about our academic responsibilities, knowledge, labor, judgment, and learning.
Cohort Participation Activities
- January: Kick-off meeting (in person) (90 minutes)
- February: Cohort members implement at least one Pressing Prompts conversation starter with students in their course (~15-30 minutes)
- March: Cohort members implement at least one in-class or online activity with students in their course (~1-2 class periods)
- April: Cohort members implement another conversation starter or activity with students (~15-60 minutes); facilitators gather feedback from students (~30 minutes)
- May: Cohort members participate in an online webinar to share their teaching experiments, student perspectives, and insights (60 minutes)
- May: Debrief meeting (online) (60 minutes)
With gratitude for participation, cohort members will receive $500 contributed to their research/discretionary account.
We invite applications from instructors of any rank teaching a class at Duke during spring semester 2027; instructors teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level and across all disciplines are welcome to apply here.
