Due to faculty interest in the keynote by Randy Bass at the 2016 CIT Showcase, and requests to continue the dialogue on the future of teaching at Duke prompted by his talk, the CIT is organizing book clubs around Randy Bass’s latest book, “Open and Integrative: Designing Liberal Education for the New Digital Ecosystem.”
Bass’s book, coauthored with Bret Eynon, looks at reimagining the core purposes of liberal education in the context of technological change. How can technology “rebundle” college experiences that have traditionally been separated? What role do emerging technologies play in making a quality liberal education available to all?
There will be a two session book club starting February 8, and another two-session book club which will start April 6. If you are interested, register for either date and let us know whether you want a hard or electronic copy of the book. The book club is open to Duke faculty of any rank.
To allow for distributing books to participants, the deadline for applications for the book club starting February 8, 2017 is January 25. The deadline for the book club starting April 6th is March 27.
We hope you can join us in the Spring to discuss this thought-provoking book. If you have any questions, or if you are interested in forming a book club around a teaching topic in your own department, contact the CIT.
